embracing the opportunity

New York is the city of dreams. The place where you come to make something out of nothing. The place where you can either fail miserably or succeeded beyond words. The place where you learn that the only person you can depend on is yourself.
It definitely has been an uphill battle. As frustrating as everything has been, i'm growing more each day. Definitely have become more of a complainer, but heck, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. And also, I'm actually loving that I can walk everywhere! Crazy as it sounds, but I can walk millions of blocks and everything seems so new, fresh and full of energy.
I'm very grateful to be here and to finally be somewhere with people of the same drive and determination as me. Fashion here is crazy fun, anything and everything goes! People watching is always something worth doing because you can draw inspiration from everyone.

The Fashion Institute of Technology is the cream of the crop of fashion schools, located right in the heart of the fashion district. So this is the standard picture of standing in front of my school. Thanks to my uncle and aunty in virginia, i was able to get here safely after a six hour car ride!Apparently we had to go through something like 8 toll booths, but because i slept the whole time, I didn't know we went through any!Haha.

The first week involved all that mumbo jumbo orientation crap. Meetings with advisors, deans, and teachers; getting to know other students in the same major; and settling into my dorm. The student activity coordinators do a good job at keeping you busy, pretty much your whole day is jam packed with activities and meetings to attend. They manage to squeeze in fun things too, like tours of the city and campus, museum trips, walks in the park and along the river, and movie and comedy nights. They brought in someone from Def Comedy Jam to perform-who was super funny.

My roomie and I decided to ditch the activities one day and do some exploring of our own. We went down to South Street Seaport, which is this quaint little place where the ships used to come in and out of. When you're there, it feels like a whole different city with the cobblestone streets and shops. This is actually where J.Crew opened their first shop too.

The view of the Financial District.

The Brooklyn and Manhattan (background) Bridges.

This be the roomie, Linda. South Street Seaport also has this strange freakshow thing called Spiegelworld. Reminded me of the days of sitting in my Freaks & Monsters class.
